Graduate Opportunity – Operational Risk

This is a UK-based pension arrangement for local government employees. It provides retirement benefits based on salary and years of service, operating on a defined benefit basis. Covering a vast membership of over 5 million, they offer crucial financial security to public sector workers, including teachers, social workers, council staff, and firefighters, among others. The scheme’s pension funds are managed through investments to ensure the sustainability of benefits for its members.

Working as part of a small team in a flat structure your roles an responsibilities include but not limited to… 

  • Risk Identification: Identifying and documenting potential operational risks across different business units and processes within the organization.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluating the severity and likelihood of identified risks to prioritize and address them effectively.
  • Data Analysis: Analyzing data and key risk indicators to monitor trends, identify emerging risks, and recommend risk control measures.
  • Risk Reporting: Preparing reports and presentations for management and stakeholders, outlining the organization’s operational risk profile and suggesting appropriate actions.
  • Control Testing: Conducting assessments of existing risk controls and internal processes to ensure they are effective and in compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Incident Management: Participating in incident investigations when operational failures occur, to understand the root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Risk Mitigation: Collaborating with different teams to implement risk mitigation strategies and improve operational processes.
    Policy and Procedure Development: Assisting in developing and updating risk management policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Compliance and Regulations: Staying informed about relevant laws and regulations and ensuring the organization’s risk management practices are in line with legal requirements.
  • Training and Awareness: Promoting risk awareness and educating employees about risk management practices to foster a risk-conscious culture.

  • Relatable Degree (Risk, Economics, Finance etc)
  • Relationship building skills
  • Initiative & willingness to learn
  • Independance and confidence to run with concepts when given direction
