We have another exciting role at a leading financial institution who are committed to excellence in risk management and regulatory compliance.

As part of their dedication in maintaining a robust risk framework, they are seeking a highly skilled Retail Credit Risk Technical Specialist in their London HQ or hubs based in Leeds, Cardiff or other.

The Base salary ranges between £80k-£95k plus benefits and flexible working is offered.

Job Description: As a Retail Credit Risk Technical Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in evaluating the performance and risk concentrations of retail lending portfolios for both UK and international firms. You will lead cross-firm or market reviews, assessing lending strategies, risk appetite, governance frameworks, and portfolio management practices. Additionally, you will provide technical guidance, thought leadership, and analytical insights to support risk assessments and stress testing initiatives. This role requires strong communication skills to engage with senior management at regulated firms and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and review cross-firm or market reviews to evaluate portfolio performance and risk concentrations.
  • Scope and lead risk reviews across PRA-regulated lenders, assessing lending strategies, governance frameworks, and portfolio management practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and thought leadership in retail credit risk management.
  • Proactively identify emerging risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Review and challenge credit data, management information, and policies related to retail banking and credit risk.
  • Support stress testing initiatives with portfolio insights gathered from asset quality reviews and firm engagements.
  • Drive engagement for credit data initiatives within the Retail Credit Risk team.

Role Requirements:

Minimum Criteria:

  • Experience with retail lending products, acquisition strategies, account management, and collections and recoveries.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and challenging credit data, management information, and policies in retail banking and credit risk environments.
  • Knowledge of IFRS9 and provisioning methodologies for retail credit.
  • Familiarity with market developments and macro-economic factors impacting banks’ credit risk.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical issues to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to form relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external counterparts.

Essential Criteria:

  • Exposure to retail credit risk management in multiple market and business model contexts.
  • Strong understanding of various data sources, including credit bureau data.
  • Track record of delivering results through collaboration with others.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Familiarity with IRB and Basel frameworks.
  • Knowledge of stress testing methodologies and models, with the ability to analyze and challenge impairments for retail portfolios.
  • Experience in credit risk modeling, SME credit risk management, or asset-based finance.
