Operational Risk Manager

The Risk Manager oversees risk management processes across the Church Commissioners, with a focus on identifying, assessing, and mitigating business risks. The role encompasses risk identification, facilitation, management, mitigation, reporting, and data analytics. It involves various areas, including a £10 billion endowment fund, responsible investment, financial distributions, and mission support. This role involves working closely with senior management to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across various aspects of the organization, and producing comprehensive risk reports for decision-making. The successful candidate should have relevant qualifications, analytical skills, and experience in risk management.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Implement risk management processes and systems, including the use of software and automation.
  2. Collaborate with senior management to identify, assess, and evaluate risks and appropriate mitigations.
  3. Ensure timely and accurate risk registers and activities consistent with the CC’s risk management policy.
  4. Provide advice to enhance decision-making and produce risk reports.
  5. Generate reports summarizing risk management activities and changes to risk registers.
  6. Manage internal audit follow-up processes, including status reports.
  7. Offer advice on risk management, promptly accepted by management.
  8. Resolve complex risk matters and programs.
  9. Ensure risk management aligns with legislation and best practices.
  10. Deputize for the Director of Risk and Assurance if required.
  11. Undertake other risk management duties as needed.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Senior risk role experience.
  • Producing and presenting reports at CEO, Board, and Committee level.
  • Understanding of risk management best practices.
  • Proven analytical and IT skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • Professional presentation and collaborative attitude.

Desirable

  • Relevant professional Accounting qualification.
  • Competence in data analysis tools.
  • Investment sector experience.
  • Understanding of charity regulation.
  • Project Management experience.
