Operational Risk and Trade Support Manager

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an Operational Risk professional with a strong understanding of Commodities Middle Office to join one of the world’s leading natural resources organisations. My client are a major producer and marketer of more than 50 commodities globally. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the clearing and reconciliation team. This candidate will have an important part in enhancing and developing the trade support function, with the opportunity to further develop this role to encompass Operational Risk. The role is to be based in their offices near to Zurich, Switzerland.

The Job:

  • Oversight of all swap derivatives and forwards transactions.
  • You will engage, support, and provide guidance to the team on the following:
    • OTC Trade Validation and Confirmations of both paper and physical activity.
    • Administration of Exchange-Traded and OTC Commodity futures, options, and other related financial instruments.
    • Assisting the Head of Department with operational management of FCM and CCP relationships.
  • Perform system and control audits, delivering solutions to remove control inefficiencies and gaps.
  • Manage a team of direct reports who are responsible for the above activities, including resourcing, recruitment, and ongoing performance feedback.
  • Conducting a full analysis of incidents (incident response and reporting) and driving a robust solution.
  • Maintain a line of defence model and a culture of ownership and accountability.
  • Maintaining high standards of conduct, compliance, ethics, risk management and control. Promoting adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Engage and maintain operational risk initiatives including, Incident Reporting, Trade Accuracy, KRI/KPI’s, and reporting.

Your Experience:

  • Previous experience of swap derivatives and forward transactions in a commodities environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Exchange Traded Products and their lifecycle.
  • Operational Risk experience – RCSA exercise, Incident Reporting, KRI’s and Reporting.
  • Understanding of the regulated environment and proactive in ensuring compliance.
  • Effective leader with previous managerial experience.
  • Strong influencer with the added confidence to challenge where required.
