Legal Counsel
A small, established investment firm is looking to hire a Legal Counsel into its London office.
The business has a long track record in hedge fund investing and operates with a relatively lean, close-knit team. It’s not a large platform, which means decisions are made locally and individuals tend to have broader exposure across the business.
This role sits within a small Legal & Compliance function and reports directly to the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer. The current team is more weighted towards compliance, so this hire is intended to strengthen the legal capability, particularly around drafting, documentation and advisory work.
The position is hands-on and varied. You’ll be involved in maintaining and developing fund and offering documentation, supporting on financial promotions and investor materials, and advising the business on UK regulatory requirements in a practical, commercially workable way.
There is regular interaction with teams outside of legal, including sales, marketing and finance. As a result, the role suits someone who is comfortable engaging with stakeholders and applying legal and regulatory concepts in a business-facing environment.
Given the size of the team, there is genuine ownership from the outset. You’ll have visibility across a range of activities, from fund documentation through to how regulatory requirements are implemented day to day.
The firm operates a hybrid working model, with an expectation of three days a week in the office. There is also openness to candidates seeking a slightly reduced working pattern.
They are looking for a lawyer with around 3–6 years’ PQE, most likely from a funds or asset management team in private practice. Experience in hedge funds or alternative investments would be beneficial, but strong drafting skills and a practical, commercially minded approach are also key.
