Legal Counsel

  • London
  • to£110,000 + bonus + bens

We’re working with an established investment management firm to hire a Lawyer into its London team.

We’ve partnered with the business previously and have a good understanding of how the team is structured and where this role fits. The position has recently re-opened following a change in circumstances.

This is a genuinely interesting opportunity for a technology or IT contracts lawyer looking to move into a high-performing financial services environment.

The focus is clear. They are looking for someone confident handling technology, data and complex vendor contracts within a regulated business.

This is not a funds or regulatory role. Those capabilities already exist within the team. Instead, this hire will take ownership of the firm’s technology and AI-related legal work.

That remit is still evolving, which is where the opportunity sits.

You will be the go-to person for all technology, data and AI matters across the business. This is not just about reviewing contracts. You will play a key role in shaping how legal supports this area as the firm continues to grow, with real scope to build and define the approach.

Alongside this, you’ll sit within an investment platform, giving you exposure to client agreements and the broader legal framework of a fund business, without needing to come in as a specialist.

It’s a slightly unusual mix, and one that doesn’t come up often.

What you’ll be doing

Leading on IT, SaaS, licensing and key operational contracts
Advising on technology procurement and third-party arrangements
Supporting data protection and information governance matters
Acting as the legal lead on technology and AI initiatives

Who this suits

The most likely background is a 3–5 PQE lawyer with a strong grounding in IT or tech commercial contracts, either in private practice or in-house.

You might be in a specialist commercial or technology team and looking to move into financial services, or already in-house and looking for a role with greater ownership.

Financial services experience would be helpful, but is not essential.

What matters more is strong technical capability, confidence working independently, and the ability to engage directly with stakeholders.

The business itself is performing strongly, with a high-calibre and collaborative team. It offers the chance to step into a growing area, take ownership early and make a visible impact.
