IT Audit Manager

  • Manchester
  • £70,000 - £85,000 per year

Our client is a major UK infrastructure organisation delivering one of the country’s most significant long-term energy projects. With substantial investment and a strong focus on innovation, technology and operational resilience, the business offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a nationally important project that will shape the UK’s energy future.

Role Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced IT Internal Audit Manager to join a growing Internal Audit function. This role will take responsibility for leading technology-focused audits across a complex, highly regulated environment, providing assurance over cyber security, IT governance, operational technology, data management and digital transformation.

The successful candidate will manage multiple audit engagements, oversee and develop a Senior Internal Auditor and work closely with senior stakeholders to strengthen technology controls and risk management. The role also offers the opportunity to influence the IT Audit Plan and provide assurance over major technology initiatives.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Lead multiple IT audit engagements from planning and fieldwork through to reporting and remediation tracking.
  • Deliver audits covering IT governance, cyber security, cloud services, operational technology, digital transformation and data management.
  • Review audit scopes, testing strategies, findings and reports, ensuring high-quality audit delivery.
  • Manage, coach and develop a Senior Internal Auditor, overseeing performance and audit quality.
  • Assess IT General Controls, including access management, change management, incident management and disaster recovery.
  • Build relationships with senior stakeholders, providing independent challenge and practical recommendations.
  • Contribute to the development of the risk-based Internal Audit Plan, identifying emerging technology and cyber risks.
  • Coordinate with external audit providers and other assurance teams to ensure effective audit coverage.

Experience Necessary

  • Established IT Audit Manager with significant experience delivering technology audits within large, complex or regulated organisations, or a Big Four professional services environment. Experience across both IT Audit and broader Internal Audit is essential.
  • Proven experience managing multiple audits simultaneously, including reviewing and signing off audit work, alongside direct line management and development of auditors.
  • Strong technical experience across IT General Controls, cyber security, IT governance and technology risk. Exposure to operational technology, major infrastructure projects or digital transformation would be advantageous.

Qualifications & Skills Needed

  • Qualified or actively working towards a recognised professional qualification such as CISA, CIA, ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and report-writing skills, with the confidence to challenge senior management.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with the ability to independently manage complex audit engagements and competing priorities.

Benefits

The package includes up to 10% annual bonus, 28 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing to 30 days after five years), a pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 15%, private healthcare and flexible benefits.

Please note: The successful candidate will need to meet the organisation’s security vetting requirements.
