Legal profession being changed by technology

Legal profession being changed by technologyThe legal profession is undergoing drastic changes as a result of the ongoing use of technology.

According to The Lawyer magazine, many workers in the industry are finding their role changed due to the growth of crowdsourcing, billing apps and social media.

In particular, in-house lawyers are finding increasing pressure to switch to software that keeps track of costs, as well as making sure their LinkedIn profiles are up-to-date.

Leading firm Taylor Wessing has embraced the changes and is using iPads to encourage staff to submit ideas to management and increase their influence on the direction of the company.

“There’s a need for more creative lawyers as more products come onto the market and that need is likely to grow,” explained London managing partner Tim Eyles.

Baker & McKenzie UK managing partner Paul Rawlinson also stressed that it is key for the legal profession to embrace the technology so they can reduce costs and improve efficiency.
