Risk Consultant – Enterprise & Operational Risk
12-month FTC | London | Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office
We are working with a leading UK investment manager to appoint an experienced Risk Consultant to join its second-line Risk function on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract.
This is a broad Manager-level enterprise risk role, offering significant exposure across the firm’s risk framework. The successful individual will work closely with the Head of Risk and wider business, taking ownership across enterprise and operational risk, risk and control assessment, second-line assurance, operational resilience and CASS, while also gaining exposure to the oversight of investment risk.
The Risk team operates with a broad remit, combining day-to-day risk oversight with the continued development of the firm’s wider risk management framework.
The role
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the continued development of the firm’s enterprise and operational risk framework
- Working across the business to identify and assess operational risks and the effectiveness of mitigating controls
- Providing independent second-line oversight, challenge and assurance
- Monitoring KRIs, risk events and emerging risks and supporting senior-level risk reporting
- Taking responsibility for key elements of the firm’s Operational Resilience framework, including Important Business Services, impact tolerances, mapping and scenario testing
- Providing oversight of business continuity, disaster recovery and crisis-management arrangements
- Supporting the firm’s CASS oversight framework
- Contributing to ICARA, Wind Down Planning and associated stress testing
- Producing risk reporting and presenting relevant issues through senior management and governance committees
- Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation to embed effective risk management and controls
The underlying remit is deliberately broad, extending across operational risk exposures, controls, KRIs, risk events, ICARA and Wind Down Planning.
There is also an interesting investment-risk dimension to the position. You will provide second-line oversight and challenge around areas including investment-risk models, limits, derivatives exposure, counterparty risk, liquidity, leverage, pricing and stress/scenario analysis. You do not need to be an investment-risk specialist, but should be comfortable working around investment risk and engaging with specialists in the first line.
The individual
We are looking for an experienced, pragmatic risk professional who enjoys operating across a broad remit rather than within a narrowly defined risk specialism.
You are likely to bring:
- Broad enterprise and/or operational risk experience within asset management or investment management
- Hands-on Operational Resilience experience within an asset management environment – this is a prerequisite
- Experience of second-line risk oversight, assurance and effective challenge
- Good understanding of risk and control frameworks and governance
- The ability to work across a range of risk disciplines and quickly get to grips with unfamiliar areas
- Strong stakeholder-management and influencing skills
- The confidence to engage with senior management while remaining pragmatic and commercially minded
- The ability to operate autonomously within a relatively lean and collaborative risk team
The formal specification seeks at least seven years of risk oversight or related experience at Manager level, alongside strong delivery, business-partnering and communication skills.
This is an attractive opportunity for someone who enjoys the breadth of enterprise risk, wants genuine ownership within a relatively lean second-line function, and would value the additional exposure to investment-risk oversight.
12-month FTC | London | 3 days per week in the office
Please note: previous Operational Resilience experience within asset management/investment management is essential for this appointment.
