We are working with a major UK investment organisation to appoint a Senior Enterprise Risk Manager into a highly visible second-line risk position.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Enterprise Risk professional to join a lean, hands-on risk function and take meaningful ownership across the organisation’s enterprise risk framework.

The role requires someone who is comfortable operating at both a strategic and detailed level. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, investment teams and risk owners, providing independent oversight and challenge while also being prepared to get into the detail and personally drive work forward.

The environment is deliberately different from a large, heavily siloed risk function. There is significant breadth, visibility and autonomy, with the opportunity to lead individual initiatives and help further develop the organisation’s risk maturity.

The role

The remit will include:

• Developing, enhancing and embedding the Enterprise Risk Management framework
• Risk appetite, Key Risk Indicators, risk registers and governance
• Identifying and assessing strategic, operational, investment and emerging risks
• Emerging-risk and horizon-scanning activity, including scenario analysis
• Developing and enhancing risk and control frameworks
• Producing high-quality risk reporting and insights for senior management, Risk Committees and Boards
• Risk-event management and root-cause analysis
• Supporting improvements to the wider control environment
• Working with risk owners and investment teams to identify practical risk mitigations
• Providing constructive second-line challenge while developing strong relationships with the business
• Helping embed a proactive and commercially relevant risk culture
• Supporting the continued development of risk systems and processes

The person

We are particularly interested in individuals with broad Enterprise Risk Management experience gained within financial services, ideally within investment management, asset management, pensions or a similarly investment-led organisation.

You should have experience operating within a second-line risk function and understand how to balance independent oversight and challenge with being a pragmatic partner to the business.

Importantly, this is not a role for someone who wants to operate solely at policy level or within a narrow risk specialism. The successful individual will enjoy working in a lean environment, be willing to get into the weeds when required and be comfortable taking responsibility for delivering work themselves.

We would particularly like to see evidence of where you have built, enhanced or embedded risk frameworks, improved risk maturity or implemented tangible changes to the way an organisation manages risk.

Experience across areas such as risk appetite, KRIs, risk registers, controls, emerging risk, incident management and senior risk reporting will all be relevant.

Experience with Enterprise Risk Management systems is useful, with Protecht particularly advantageous.

This would suit someone who wants breadth, autonomy and genuine influence within a relatively small risk function, while remaining close to both the investment business and senior decision-makers.
