The Opportunity

A leading international banking organisation is seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President – TM Control Owner to strengthen its financial crime analytics and model validation capability. This is a high-impact role sitting at the intersection of financial crime risk, automated detection, and advanced analytics.

The successful candidate will play a key role in validating, optimising, and overseeing transaction monitoring models, ensuring they remain accurate, effective, and compliant with regulatory expectations. Strong coding capability (Python and SQL) is essential to succeed in this position.


Purpose of the Role

To independently verify the accuracy, reliability, and robustness of analytical and transaction monitoring models, ensuring appropriate governance, controls, and ongoing performance oversight.


Key Responsibilities

Model Validation & Oversight

  • Develop and implement validation plans for new and existing transaction monitoring models

  • Assess model methodology, assumptions, limitations, and associated risks

  • Perform back testing and stress testing to evaluate model robustness

  • Analyse model accuracy, performance, and regulatory compliance

  • Produce clear, high-quality model documentation

Monitoring & Controls

  • Design and implement ongoing monitoring frameworks to ensure sustained model effectiveness

  • Identify data integrity and data quality issues and drive remediation

  • Strengthen controls and governance across TM model lifecycle

  • Take ownership of risk management within the remit

Stakeholder & Strategic Engagement

  • Consult on complex technical and risk issues with senior stakeholders

  • Influence decision-making across financial crime, technology, and business teams

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support wider financial crime strategy

  • Contribute to policy and procedure enhancements aligned to the control agenda

Technical & Analytical Delivery

  • Conduct complex data analysis using Python and SQL (essential)

  • Support optimisation and evolution of automated monitoring capabilities

  • Work with large, multi-source datasets to derive actionable insights

  • Communicate complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences


Assistant Vice President Expectations

  • Provide expert advice on complex and escalated issues

  • Identify opportunities to mitigate risk and improve controls

  • Demonstrate strong understanding of how cross-functional teams contribute to organisational objectives

  • Support change and transformation initiatives

  • Influence stakeholders to achieve risk and control outcomes


Essential Experience

  • Proven expertise in automated Transaction Monitoring systems

  • Strong model validation, optimisation, and performance management experience

  • Advanced analytical capability with hands-on data investigation

  • Strong coding skills in Python and SQL (critical requirement)

  • Deep understanding of TM frameworks and regulatory expectations

  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills


Highly Desirable

  • Experience applying machine learning or AI within TM or fraud detection

  • Project delivery experience within financial crime or risk

  • Professional certifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS)

  • Exposure to large-scale banking environments
