Salaries

Salaries were generally static during 2010 with the exception of the banking sector where the reduction in bonus driven incentives led to increases in base salaries. Salaries are usually a function of supply and demand and those companies that recruited externally were rarely under pressure to make higher offers than they otherwise felt comfortable with.

Bonuses in 2010 started to recover across most sectors, although nowhere near prerecession levels. How the banks and the financial services sector restructure their bonus schemes in the face of accusations that link high bonuses to high risk taking is going to be interesting. We have insufficient data to comment at this point.

Salary Survey

Total remuneration varies throughout the various industry sectors in terms of the salary, other benefits and bonuses that may be paid. For the purpose of this survey we have chosen common examples of job types and evaluated the salary range that would have to be offered to attract appropriate candidates. We have excluded bonuses. We recognise that the make up of total remuneration varies and for ease of comparison, we have divided salaries between what could be expected in the financial services sector and industry. The following is intended as a rough guide and does not take into account the premium paid for specialist knowledge (e.g. treasury audit in the banking sector).
