The Division


The compliance & financial crime division was established in 2002 and was the most profitable division within Barclay Simpson globally in 201.


We split the market into regulatory compliance & financial crime and recruit at the mid to senior end of the market, having placed numerous global Heads of Department on a retained basis.


We are financial services focused with occasional recruitment outside of this for senior level mandates. We recruit mainly across banking, asset management, brokers, insurers, payment firms and fin techs but also work on roles with a variety of other FS focused firms. We focus on working with a handful of select tier 1 organisations and then with numerous smaller organisations where we can have more ownership and potential for exclusivity.


The team is looking to grow at a steady rate over the next 18 months and this role would be a pivotal part of the team’s development.




The Role


The role will be the key person leading our financial crime offering and will report to the divisional head. We are looking for a Senior Consultant who is able to work multiple roles while building out the desk with continuous business development.


Duties will include:

  • Managing existing client relationships

  • Searching and managing multiple processes

  • Building out maps of teams we work with and those we don’t 

  • Strategically designing an approach to grow the desk to support multiple consultants. This will involve using information on existing clients to look for opportunities to grow (either with clients the team or the wider business works with) as well as identifying further areas for growth

  • Writing appropriate and interesting marketing material

  • Utilising a variety of mediums including LinkedIn, eFinancial Careers and our own CRM system to maintain a strong flow of candidates


    The team has high achievers including the highest UK biller from last year and will work on roles with fees up to and exceeding £50,000. The key is maintaining a balance between big ticket work and smaller fees to maintain a consistent flow of fees. The individual will be expected to bill a minimum of £180,000 in the first 12 months and put the desk in a position to accommodate further consultants during that time.


    This is very much a mix of account managing some strong existing accounts and business developing further opportunities. Growth and business development will be a key part of this role in the first 12-18 months if we are to achieve the size we are aiming for. This role could a pure billings or management role in time based on growth of the desk.



The Candidate


This is a Senior Consultant role requiring experience of running a 360 desk. There is potential to develop along either the pure billings route, or the management route, depending on the preference on the successful candidate.  However, an appetite to business develop and grow something are the key characteristics needed.


Candidates don’t need to have worked within financial crime previously but ideally will be experienced in recruiting professionals for financial services clients.


An appreciation of financial crime, compliance, risk, fraud etc. will be useful but the attitude of the individual is far more important.


The desk is lively and the consultants are all driven so a similar mind-set will be vital for anyone to succeed.
