Legal Division


Barclay Simpson established the Legal Division in 2008.  We have built up a niche as an in-house specialist and are considered one of the leading in-house recruiters in London. 


We started as a financial services specialist and have an established client base across retail, investment and corporate banking, asset management and insurance.  In recent years, we have also put considerable energy into our Commerce & Industry offering and are increasing our presence in this market.


We recruit all levels of qualified lawyer from Junior Legal Counsel through to Heads of Legal & Compliance and General Counsel and work across all disciplines including transactional banking, capital markets, corporate, commercial, funds, insurance, employment, data privacy and technology.


Within financial services, we are PSL suppliers to a wide range of sizeable institutions including a number of Tier 1 banks.


We are committed to growing our legal desk and sponsor several GC conferences and some sector specific awards ceremonies and events every year which is a valuable additional tool to complement day to day business development.



The Role


The legal division currently comprises 3 staff (previously 7) and has historically been one of the biggest billing divisions in the company.


As Head of Legal, you will report directly to our CEO and will have a place on our Operational Board.  You will operate as a billing manager, managing your own desk (sector TBC) as well as directly managing the 3 consultants on the existing team.  The Legal division has huge potential to grow and we would expect that, in time, you will hire more consultants to ultimately service all areas of banking and financial services, commerce and industry.


The Candidate


Team leader or manager grade with extensive experience of operating in the legal recruit market (either in-house or private practice).


You will be keen to manage a growing team, and will be an ambitious individual with strong leadership skills.


The ability to consolidate and build existing relationships, develop new business, take ownership and make placements on an ongoing basis is also vital to the success of this role.  Personality is key; we’re looking for someone who is: self-motivated, confident, sales focused, competitive, hard-working, proactive, sharp, eager…and with a team focus, helping the team to meet its full potential.
