During the recession the recruitment market for treasury professionals, in line with other disciplines, experienced a decline in demand. During the first half of 2009, the economic downturn combined with unpredictability in the financial markets led companies to focus on cost and consolidation. Recruitment was therefore subdued and some treasury professionals were made redundant. It is now clear that the need for businesses to concentrate on financial asset management and risk has underpinned and even enhanced the role of treasury professionals. With rising economic confidence, the demand for treasury managers is increasing and in the absence of any further economic or financial shocks the medium term prospects are positive.
