Risk professionals still in demand in London
Despite the general economic uncertainty, new jobs for risk professionals are being created daily in London. There are two main reasons for this. London is home to the City of London with its huge concentration of major retail and investment banks, financial services groups, consultancies and other support services businesses. The combined diversity and concentration of financial sector businesses in London means that it is highly unlikely that all businesses will cease recruiting at the same time and vacancies and career progression will continue to be available.
Additionally, the reputational damage caused by the sub-prime lending crisis and subsequent credit crunch is making companies re-assess their risk management infrastructures. Given this background, and the pending debates at both an industry and government level about the future of corporate governance in the financial sector, it is unlikely that the capability of risk departments will be reduced.
