Insurance sector still seeking lawyers
The UK has one of the largest insurance industries in the world and in general the legal insurance jobs market has remained strong during 2008. Although not detached from the problems affecting the rest of the banking and financial services industry, lawyers can, for the time being at least, be confident that there is still a market for qualified lawyers with insurance sector experience.
There are two main reasons for this. First, pressure to cut costs has encouraged insurers to bring their legal work back in-house rather than paying external counsel. Second, insurance companies that have been subject to firm-wide recruitment freezes are finding that recent increases in litigation and claims is putting increased pressure on their legal departments and they therefore need to continue to recruit lawyers to cover their insurance legal work.
