The internal audit recruitment market, together with other areas of corporate governance and the UK economy more generally, is recovering from a particularly deep recession. Whilst the economic recovery is most likely destined to be slow and not without risk of relapse, we are optimistic that the strength and durability of internal auditing as a profession has been demonstrated during the course of the last two years. It has been the best performing area of corporate governance.
- New vacancies amongst our sample companies increased by almost 60% between the first and second half of 2009.
- Defensive registrations were down to 19% by the end of 2009.
- The fall in the total number of internal auditors employed during 2009 was only 1%.
