The information security consulting sector is one of the most dynamic areas of information security recruitment and expanded significantly during 2007, primarily through the creation of new information security consultant jobs.
A significant factor in the recent growth is the high level of government spending on IT projects, which is set to continue. In 2007, there was also strong demand from the financial sector, which has been a heavy user of information security consultancy services. It is not clear how strong this stream of work will be for the firms involved through 2008, however, an IT security specialist role can often provide a stepping stone into other areas of the financial sector.
There has been competition for information security specialist staff across the board, with the Big 4, the large systems integrators, the professional services divisions of security vendors and niche boutique specialists all competing.
